Clim 301 Lab7 Part 3

Nov. 4 Lab: Case Study 1, Part 3 -- Seeing the Big Picture

1) Use the map below to obtain the station identifiers for the available RAOB reports the morning of the 24th of April 2010. The map is linked HERE

A Skew-T plot has been made for each station. You can access those plots HERE

Look at the various soundings from different portions of the weather system we have been discussing. Look at soundings from the warm sector of the low, stations north of the low, stations behind the cold front, stations under the jet, etc. Look at which soundings are stable, and which are unstable. Look at the moisture profiles, based on the dewpoint depression.

Discuss your findings. Refer to specific stations by it's station identifier.

2) Write a map discussion for this situation. Write this discussion as though it is the morning of the 24th, and you are making a forecast for central Mississippi. Discuss the major features, as we have been doing in the map discussions in the lab. Discuss how those large scale features will affect the weather in Mississippi. Focus on the 36 hour period from the morning of the 24th to the evening of the 25th.

In your discussions, describe geographic locations as: lon/lat, state names, city names, or regions as shown on the NWS map of region names HERE
